Johnson Controls has a LEED Platinum corporate campus and is applying LEED to their manufacturing plants around the world

 

Kimberly HoskenKimberly Hosken joined Johnson Controls, Inc. in February 2008 as a member of the Global Energy and Sustainability team. Kim leads the global sustainability team which includes people in 14 countries practicing LEED consulting.  Johnson Controls has over 17m. sq. feet  of LEED certified projects around the globe.   Prior to joining Johnson Controls  Kim held the position of Director LEED, New Construction  for the US Green Building Council in Washington DC.   Kim has developed and delivered multiple LEED and Green Building training programs in Dubai, Shanghai, Santiago, the United States and Canada to contractors, designers and manufacturers, over 3000 people have attended her workshops.

Alan BellAlan has over 30 years of experience in the design and construction of various types of facilities. Alan is the Director for Design and Construction for the Seton Family of Hospitals.  Prior to joining Seton in 2004, Alan worked for more than six years at Dell Inc. as Facilities Manager/Corporate Architect.   Alan holds a Bachelor of Architecture degree from the University of Texas at Austin.  He is a Registered Architect and Interior Designer in Texas, LEED accredited professional and a member of the American Institute of Architects, serving as President of the Austin Chapter in 2003.  Alan is a founding director of the Austin Foundation for Architecture, and a past member of the Board of Directors for the Texas Society of Architects
Michele Van Hyfte:  As Seton's new Manager of Environmental Stewardship, Michele develops and leads environmental stewardship and sustainability programs for Seton Healthcare Family.  She joined Seton earlier this year after 8 years with Monach Design and Consulting, a professional firm she founded that specialized in high-performance buildings.  Michele is a registered architect and LEED AP.  She currently serves on the Board of Directors for the Downtown Austin Alliance and Envision Central Texas.  She was a founding member of the Central Texas Balcones Chapter of USGBC.

Achieving its second certification at LEED EB Platinum in the Energy Capital of the US might at first thought be considered a challenge.  Explore the achievements the building made with non-potable irrigation from condensate water, motion sensor design in a parking garage and a detailed occupant survey that revealed the unexpected.

 

Adam RoseAdam Rose is a General Property Manager at Hines for Main Place, a 1,000,000 square foot Class A office property in Houston. He is a member of BOMA and has served as past Chair of the Young Professionals Committee of Houston’s BOMA Chapter. At Hines, Adam is responsible for certifying the first LEED EB building in Houston’s Central Business District, and has also achieved the first LEED EB Platinum building certification in the state of Texas. He currently serves Hines as their “LEED and sustainability expert”. Adam is recognized for his leadership in implementing Hines’ Regional Sustainability Initiatives. This team has successfully implemented sustainable operations, maintenance and management processes across the Southwest Region, which includes LEED certification of more than 22 million SF of Class A office properties. Adam has addressed many CRE organizations including BOMA, IREM, NAIOP, as well as Rice University.

Leonardo Academy
Learn different approaches for achieving LEED-EB criteria, what has worked and what has not.  The presentation will highlight key strategies and lessons learned from various LEED-EB case studies including the National Geographic Society, several commercial office buildings, International Monetary Fund (IMF), and the World Bank.

 

Michael Arny: Michael Arny is president and founder of Leonardo Academy, a non-profit organization dedicated to advancing sustainability. Leonardo Academy develops new approaches to sustainability and provides companies and organization with comprehensive sustainability implementation and performance tracking services. Mr. Arny has been called the “Father of LEED for Existing Buildings” because of his key role in its development. From 2001 to 2005 Mr. Arny chaired the LEED-EB Committee of the U.S. Green Building Council and was a member of the LEED steering Committee. As chair of the LEED-EB Committee, Mr. Arny guided LEED-EB through the development, pilot testing, refinement and balloting process. Mr. Arny has a BS and MS in mechanical engineering and a BA in Psychology and Russian language. He is a registered professional engineer in the State of Wisconsin and a LEED® AP for O+M and BD+C.

Sustainable  Sites Initiative
Sustainable Sites Initiative (SITES) is a voluntary system of national guidelines and performance benchmarks for sustainable land design, construction and maintenance.  Case study of The Green at College Park.

 

Jana Tidwell:  Janna is an award winning Landscape Architect whose professional endeavors focus on the creation of social and sustainable places.  Her work primarily focuses on public projects and ranges from the design of urban parks, streetscapes and trails.  She draws on her background in horticulture and natural resources to strengthen her work.  Recently, her efforts at UTA, The Green at College Park, was recognized by the Sustainable Sites Initiative™(SITES) as one of the first three projects in the world to be certified according to the organization’s rigorous benchmarks, which rates sustainable site design, construction and maintenance.
